Race Against Time - Science Behind a Botanic Garden Tour
This session introduces the research facilities at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, including the Library of Botany & Horticulture, the Micropropagation Laboratory, and the Herbarium. A highlight of this tour is a visit to the Herbarium, where physical records of reference plant materials are stored, some dating as far back as 1790. In addition, learn about our hybridisation programme for orchids, a process introduced back in 1930’s by the then Director, R.E Holttum.
This programme is part of the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2025. From 19 to 27 July, watch our trees glow with new light installations at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. As part of this year's Heritage Festival, immerse yourself in a variety of enchanting activities, from musical performances and outdoor film screenings beneath the stars, to guided tours and onsite programmes led by the Gardens' own researchers and horticulturists!
