(Tickets available) Cerita Anak (Child's Story)

Cerita Anak (Child's Story)

Polyglot Theatre & Papermoon Puppet Theatre (Australia, Indonesia)

Cerita Anak (Child’s Story) takes children and their adults on a sea journey never to be forgotten

Climb aboard and be rocked and rolled across a strange ocean, dive to the bottom of the sea, hear stories in the wind and in the currents of the water, and face great danger before coming to safe harbour.

Cerita Anak (Child’s Story) draws its inspiration from the seafaring history in Java and the true tale of arrival in Australia told by a small boy. Combining puppetry, song, shadow imagery and sound, the show bustles with all the life of the ocean. Audience members, both young and old, will be transported by this exquisite adventure, created by Australia’s Polyglot Theatre and Indonesia’s Papermoon Puppet Theatre.

Two Different Perspectives for the Audience

Cerita Anak (Child’s Story) is designed for children and their adults.

This unique work offers an audience experience from two perspectives:

  1. The inner audience (Passenger) is made up of child and adult pairs who enter the boat as passengers and fully participate in the work.
  2. The outer audience (Villager) is made up of other family members and older children. They are seated in a typical theatre seating arrangement and watch the work as a piece of theatre.

These two perspectives offer very different understandings of the work.

The Passenger is immersed in the story and goes through a sensory and physical experience of the journey.

The Villager has an experience that is more meditative, with the ability to see the bigger picture and to see the story unfold from the outside.
