FISH Course - Caretakers of Tomorrow

Human Impact on Coastal Ecosystems Lab + Cruise

Scholars will investigate impacts on our local marine ecosystem in this advanced course with the Marine Science Center. Advanced laboratory concepts include ocean chemistry, animal biology, invasive species, and fish dissections. While in the field, scholars will use oceanographic equipment to take biological samples and water parameters. This course on the human Impact on coastal ecosystems lab and cruise includes field trips to surrounding islands on the school's 50-foot outdoor classroom, the Black Dolphin.

Caretakers of Tomorrow is now enrolling for scholars ages 8-13 to explore marine science in Hong Kong from April 29-May1, 2019 from 9am-4pm. Class size is limited and subject to first come first serve basis. Fully Immersive Scholar’s Holiday (F.I.S.H.) courses are taught using THS’s active learning approaches to real-world issues, allowing your scholar to have fun while developing a 360 view of the topic. Make the most out of holiday breaks while immersed in an inclusive and supportive educational environment.

A bit about the Caretakers of Tomorrow FISH Crew:

  • Sarah Taylor runs the Marine Science Center at THS taking care of the animals, working with Hong Kong NGOs to further marine conservation and teaching marine sciences, ecology, and activism. She is from a beach town in North Carolina where she ran a marine science summer camp and worked with local schools. Her favorite sea animal is the cuttlefish because of their high intelligence and personality she's seen while diving.
  • Maxine Cutracci is the THS Marine Science Specialist. She takes care of animals husbandry and teaches marine biology classes. Before living in Hong Kong she worked as a Marine Biologist in the Maldives doing research on sea turtles and developing projects with a local school on the island. Her favorite marine animals are corals because they are so colorful and... they don't look like animals at all!
